What is reiki?

Reiki means Universal life Energy. In Japanese, Rei means universal and Ki means a non-physical energy.

Reiki is a Japanese method of healing and spiritual development, developed by Dr. Mikao Usui.

It involves the transfer of Universal Energy to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal itself balancing the life force within. The life force energy or Prana flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s life force energy is too low, or too high then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, but if it is in balance, we are more capable of being happy, healthy and gain clarity of mind. Reiki is a simple, natural method of spiritual healing that everyone can use.

Is reiki safe?

You remain completely clothed, except for your shoes. Reiki is usually done lying down on a treatment table. the only things you may be asked to take off are watches and belts.

How does it feel?

You will feel, the Reiki practitioners’ hands lightly placed on your front body, head and back body. Each hand placement brings a sense of ease.

When will I see the benefits?

Every body is different and it really depends on individual case.(questions to consider are: How long have you had the issue? Am I willing to feel whatever block I have in order to let it flow? )

It might take a few sessions to see the benefits, although some people might feel some benefits straight away. It is usually advised to have the 3 first sessions booked quite close to each other, in order to enhance and speed up the process.

Some people might experience some kind of emotional release after their first Reiki session (crying, angry, un-ease) although not always comfortable, it shows that the energy is moving and you just have to allow yourself to feel it. If after 3 days these emotions have not subsided please call.

can you cure my cancer?

Although I wish I could, “I am not a magic wand!” (like my Master Nana Deleplanque would say.) but Reiki can help you find the strength to fight the disease and find peace and clarity of mind as to what your choices are.

I take heavy medication, is reiki safe for me?

Reiki is always safe, not only reiki will enhance the benefits of your medication but also it will help subside any side effects you might have.

I have a hard time lying down on my back, can I still practice Yoga nidra?

if you can not lye on your back, any positions where you don’t have to move will be optimal for you.

What is yoga Nidra?

Meditation is for Sarah a natural companion of Reiki. Yoga Nidra comes from the Hindu texts of Vedanta (the Vedas) in the Upanishads (=teachings on the universe and self realization). The science behind this method is more than 6,000 years old. Yoga Nidra, is therefore an ancient sleeping guided meditation technique where your body is asleep, but you are still conscious and aware.

Yoga means Union and Nidra means the integrative sleep of the yogis. YN takes you to alpha and theta states of consciousness, slowing down the fluctuations of the mind, helping you disengage from stress producing thoughts and allowing the body to naturally and deeply restore itself and enter a DEEP RELAXATION state.

what are the benefits of yoga Nidra?

Just like Reiki its benefits are countless;

40 minutes of YN is equivalent to 3 hrs. of sleep.

From creating a clear state of mind where problems can be solved, decreasing anxiety, helping with memory loss to helping with more physical issues (addiction, diabetes, insomnia, reducing cortisol, reducing body weight ….and the list goes on.)

Yoga Nidra provides you with an effective tool where you can rewrite your personal pre-programing (Samskaras) changing the way you see what is on your consciousness.

It helps you reach a state of PEACEFUL PRESENCE for yourself and people around you. In Yoga Nidra we enter SAMADHI (=Ultimate Liberation), a state of oneness and Unity.

How does Yoga Nidra work?

This technique comes from the Hindu texts of Vedanta (the Vedas) in the Upanishads (=teachings on the universe and self realization). The science behind this method is more than 6,000 years old.

Yoga Nidra works on 3 levels: Spiritual, Psychological/ behavioral and Physical. it uses a biological process of sleep to help you naturally disengage from your thoughts.

There are 5 tools of Yoga Nidra;

REALIZATION (Spiritual) that allows you to experience the self beyond the body, realizing who we truly are. You connect to pure consciousness, a silent non-doing presence. STILLNESS

INTEGRATION: (Psychological/ Behavioral) this stages allows you to release blocked energy at all levels, the body and the mind are integrating balance at both an emotional and a physical level.

DISIDENTIFICATION (Psychological/ Behavioral/ Spiritual) This is the stage when you become the witness of all thoughts and behavior, this distance allows you to move from a preprogramed unconscious reaction to a conscious action. Making it easier for you to control your emotions in life. You will act to situations as oppose to react.

INTENTION (Psychological/ Behavioral/ Spiritual) Unique to Yoga Nidra, you will use an intention to shift your life in the direction you want to go. You are in control.

RESTORATION (Physiological) In Yoga Nidra you go from beta (waking state) to alpha and theta brainwave states allowing the body to heal itself and restore itself naturally. With Yoga Nidra you enter brainwaves like in deep meditation, it is beneficial for healing and enhances learning.

Yoga Nidra is usually done lying down on your mat and Sarah is the facilitator. You just need to listen with your Prana (energy) body and the rest will be done.

what do I need to bring?

All you need for Yoga Nidra is a mat and whatever resources that will make you more comfortable (bolster, blanket…). A blanket is strongly recommended as the temperature of the body lowers when you are in a deep meditative state.

how do I find an intention?

After the first or second class, you can schedule an individual appointment with Sarah to work on creating your primary and secondary intention, that you can use on a daily basis.

how do hatha and vinyasa yoga relate to your services?

Yoga just like Reiki is a healing practice, it is all about feeling the energy within your body. I offer Vinyasa and Hatha during the Joyga project , private sessions are also available.

what are hatha and vinyasa yoga?

Yoga is a holistic art and practice that originated in India about 5,000 years ago. The word yoga means to yoke as to unite the body with the mind and the mind with the soul in order to reach a state of balance, health, tranquility and enlightenment.

There are many styles of Yoga and none is better than another. Most differences between each style of yoga derive from the primary focus of the practitioner’s attention.

Hatha Yoga is the style on which most other styles are based. In Sanskrit Ha means the sun and Tha, the moon. the practice is designed to bring balance into each aspect of our polarities. It includes slow-paced stretching, asanas, simple breathing exercises and sometime a short seated meditation. Hatha Yoga classes are good for beginners.

Vinyasa yoga is more of an alignment based type of yoga and asanas are woven into a flowing practice. It is a more energetic practice.

My classes tend to mix both Hatha and Vinyasa depending on the client’s body and strength. My main priority, is being able to feel the flow of energy within the body and within each pose in order to really go deep; feeling  and reaching the union of our soul and the cosmic soul. Slow paste movements and holding of asanas expected!
